Angers, a city easy to get to between Paris and the Atlantic coast

Nestled in the heart of the Loire Valley and Anjou, a region steeped in history, Angers is within easy reach of Paris, one hour 40 minutes away by TGV, the French high-speed train, and Nantes (under 1 hour) and the Atlantic coast. Situated on the River Maine, Angers also offers an extensive and picturesque network of cycle paths forming part of the Loire valley biking trail (“La Loire à vélo”).

The little city with the big heart

In the heartland of the Loire Valley – a UNESCO world heritage site – Angers is the capital of the former province of Anjou renowned for a certain gentleness of both its climate and its inhabitants, which is referred to locally as the “douceur angevine” after a famous 16th century poem.

It is a thriving, youthful city with 48% of its 160,000 inhabitants under 30, including 33,000 students, and was recently ranked among the top ten French cities offering the best quality of life.

With its many parks and gardens the city offers a vibrant mix of culture, recreation and entertainment within a pleasant environment, while it also boasts a well-developed network of public transports and bike paths.
No wonder it’s a place that makes everyone feel good and safe!

A green city, eco-friendly city

From the Castle’s medieval grounds to the Ardoisières slate quarry park where minerals and vegetation beautifully intermingle, Angers is a green city ideal for relaxing and leisurely strolls. It also boasts the Lac de Maine leisure park and a vast choice of public gardens (jardin des Plantes, jardin du Mail or jardin de l’Arboretum...).

A leading edge city

Since 2015 Angers has been home to the Cité de l’objet connecté dedicated to the so-called Internet of Things – the first of its kind in France – which acts as an industrial innovation accelerator offering help and support to innovative start-ups and SMEs. The city is home to the headquarters of key European companies in the field of electronics as well as hosting recent cutting edge businesses that are already well-established on the local industrial scene.
